The Ukrainian Premier League (UPL) is the top division of Ukrainian football clubs, founded in 1991 after the collapse of the Soviet Union. The league consists of 16 teams competing for the title of Ukrainian Champion. The season runs from July to May of the following year.

Dynamo Kyiv and Shakhtar Donetsk are the two most successful clubs in the history of the UPL. Dynamo Kyiv has won 16 championship titles, the most recent of which was achieved in the 2020/2021 season. Shakhtar Donetsk has 14 titles, and their dominance in recent years is evident, including winning the 2023/2024 season.

In the 2023/2024 season, Shakhtar Donetsk confirmed its status as one of the strongest clubs in Ukraine by winning the championship title. The team demonstrated high quality of play and stability throughout the season. Leading players such as Taras Stepanenko and Manor Solomon have made significant contributions to the team's success.

Dynamo Kyiv remains Shakhtar's main rival and is often a serious contender for the title. In recent years, the team led by Mircea Lucescu has been able to regain its leading position, winning the title in the 2020/2021 season. In the 2023/2024 season, Dynamo took second place, demonstrating a high level of play. Andriy Yarmolenko, who returned to Dynamo in the 2023/2024 season after playing for Al Ain, has made an important contribution to the team's success.

The Ukrainian Premier League is also known for its derbies, especially the matches between Dynamo Kyiv and Shakhtar Donetsk, which attract a lot of attention from fans. These meetings often determine the balance of power in the championship and generate great interest among spectators.

One of the most outstanding scorers in the history of the UPL is Maksym Shatskikh, who scored 124 goals for Dynamo Kyiv. The record for the most goals in one season belongs to Henrikh Mkhitaryan, who scored 25 goals for Shakhtar in the 2012/2013 season.

The Ukrainian Premier League continues to develop young talent. Many players, such as Oleksandr Zinchenko, began their careers in the UPL before moving to top clubs in Europe. Zinchenko plays for Arsenal in the English Premier League.

In recent years, Ukrainian clubs have demonstrated stable results on the international stage. Shakhtar Donetsk and Dynamo Kyiv regularly participate in the group stages of the UEFA Champions League, and have also achieved success in the UEFA Europa League.

The infrastructure of Ukrainian football is also developing. New and modernized stadiums such as the Olympic Stadium in Kyiv and Metalist Stadium in Kharkiv provide excellent conditions for hosting matches and improving the spectator experience.
