The Spanish Football Cup, also known as the Copa del Rey, is one of the most prestigious and oldest tournaments in Spanish football. Founded in 1903, the tournament attracts teams from all levels, from La Liga to regional leagues, making it special and unpredictable.

In the 2023/2024 season, the Spanish Cup included 116 teams, from the preliminary round to the final. The tournament is played in a knockout format, where every game can be decisive. In the event of a draw at the end of regular time, extra time and, if necessary, a penalty shootout are appointed.

The 2023/2024 Spanish Cup Final was held on 6 April 2024 at the La Cartuja stadium in Seville. In this tense match, Athletic Bilbao won against Mallorca with a score of 1:1 (4:2 on penalties). For Athletic Bilbao, this was the first victory in the Cup in 40 years, which was a significant event for the club and its fans.

The Spanish Cup regulations provide for several stages. The tournament begins with preliminary rounds, in which teams from the lower divisions and regional leagues participate. At the 1/32 finals stage, La Liga teams join the competition, entering the tournament to compete with the winners of the previous rounds. The matches are knockout, and in the event of a draw in regular time, extra time and a penalty shootout are held to determine the winner.

At the 1/16 and 1/8 finals stage, the match is also held according to the knockout system. The semi-finals are played in two matches - home and away, which adds additional intrigue and an opportunity for teams to show themselves. The final is held at a neutral stadium, which ensures maximum objectivity and entertainment of the event.

Historically, the Spanish Cup has been an important arena for the demonstration of young talents and reserve players. Over the years, many famous footballers have started their careers in these matches, attracting the attention of top clubs and national teams.

Among the most successful clubs in the tournament are Barcelona and Athletic Bilbao, which have won the most titles in the history of the tournament. Barcelona holds the record with 31 victories, while Athletic Bilbao is second with 24 titles.

The Spanish Cup is also of great importance for clubs from the lower divisions, giving them the opportunity to compete with top-level teams and prove their competitiveness. For example, in the 2023/2024 season, clubs from the Segunda and lower leagues showed decent results, reaching the later stages of the tournament and beating stronger opponents.
