The Portuguese Primeira Liga, also known as the Liga Portuguese, is the top division of football clubs in Portugal. Founded in 1934, the league has 18 teams that compete for the Portuguese Championship title. The season runs from August to May of the following year.

Three clubs have dominated the history of the Primeira Liga: Benfica, Porto and Sporting Lisbon. Benfica hold the record for most league titles, having won the league 38 times, with their most recent title coming in the 2022/2023 season. Porto have 30 titles, including their victory in the 2023/2024 season. Sporting Lisbon have won 19 titles, with their most recent coming in the 2020/2021 season.

Porto, under coach Sergio Conceição, continue to show strong results. In the 2023/2024 season, the team showed a stable performance and won the championship title, securing a place in the UEFA Champions League for the next season. The team's leading players, such as Mehdi Taremi and Ottavio, contributed significantly to the team's success, demonstrating high performance and consistent play.

Benfica remains Porto's main rival in the title race. The team led by Roger Schmidt showed strong results in the 2022/2023 season, winning the championship. In the 2023/2024 season, Benfica finished second, continuing to show strong play. One of the team's key players is João Mário, who became the team's top scorer in the 2023/2024 season.

Sporting Lisbon also continues to be a strong club, regularly fighting for high places in the table. The team coached by Ruben Amorim won the league in the 2020/2021 season and continues to be among the leaders. In the 2023/2024 season, Sporting finished third, which allowed them to qualify for the UEFA Europa League.

One of the most outstanding scorers in the history of the Primeira Liga is Eusebio, who scored 319 goals for Benfica. In recent years, Porto's Mehdi Taremi has become one of the leading scorers in the league, regularly scoring important goals for his team.

The Portuguese Primeira Liga is also known for its derbies, especially the "O Clássico" between Porto and Benfica, and the "Derby de Lisboa" between Benfica and Sporting. These matches always attract a lot of attention from fans and often determine the fate of the championship title.

Many young talents start their careers in the Primeira Liga before moving on to the top clubs in Europe. For example, Cristiano Ronaldo, one of the greatest footballers of all time, started his career at Sporting Lisbon before moving to Manchester United.

The Primeira Liga continues to grow and attract fans around the world due to the high level of football and the presence of many talented players and coaches.
