The Portuguese Second League, known as Liga Portugal 2, is the second tier of the Portuguese football league system. Competition Regulations

The Liga Portugal 2 consists of 18 teams, each of which plays 34 matches per season, one home and one away against each opponent. The season starts in August and ends in May. The third-placed team plays a play-off against one of the bottom-placed teams in the Primeira Liga for the right to be promoted. At the same time, the bottom three teams of Liga Portugal 2 are relegated to the third division, Liga 3.
