The French Ligue 2 is the second most important division in the French professional football system. The tournament consists of 20 teams, each of which strives to get into the top division - Ligue 1. The season in Ligue 2 traditionally begins in August and ends in May. Each club plays 38 matches: one at home and one away against each opponent.

The first two places in the final table receive direct tickets to Ligue 1, and the third team participates in the play-offs against the 18th team of Ligue 1. At the same time, the last three teams of Ligue 2 are relegated to the National Championship, giving up their place to the best teams from the lower division. In the event of a tie between two or more teams, additional indicators are taken into account, such as the difference in goals scored and the number of goals scored.

The history of Ligue 2 is rich in interesting events. For example, the club "Lens" won this championship a record four times. Other famous teams that played in Ligue 2 include AS Monaco, Nice and Lille, who went on to achieve great success in Ligue 1.

An interesting fact is that Ligue 2 often serves as a springboard for young talents who later become stars of world football. Many famous French footballers, such as N’Golo Kante and Olivier Giroud, began their careers in this division.

One of the unique features of Ligue 2 is the participation of several teams with a rich history and large fan bases. Clubs such as Auxerre and Sochaux have a long history and tradition dating back decades. These teams, despite their current situation, have significant potential and continue to fight for a return to the top division.

The infrastructure of Ligue 2 teams continues to develop, which contributes to raising the level of competition and attracting more spectators to the stands. Many clubs are investing in upgrading their stadiums and training facilities, which has a positive impact on the quality of play and the level of preparation of the players.

Ligue 2 is therefore an important part of French football, combining young talent, historic clubs and high competition. The tournament continues to attract the attention of football fans both in France and abroad, thanks to its rich history and exciting matches.
